Sachin mentioned the Welles comparison to me as well (via Twitter) and also pointed me toward a Guru Dutt documentary on You Tube which I'm really excited to watch, though I haven't gotten to yet. Hopefully within the next week.Joel Bockohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238338958380683893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610074516299275060.post-74295050426323308112013-05-17T13:11:21.142-04:002013-05-17T13:11:21.142-04:00"Jaane woh kaise, log the jinke, pyaar ko pya..."Jaane woh kaise, log the jinke, pyaar ko pyaar mila; humne to bus khushiya maangi thi, kaanto ka haar mila" Ah, I just love this song (the one which you've mentioned at the top) - so much pathos & melancholia in the words, the music & the singing, that it just breaks one's heart.

I watched the film a very long time back, so it would be rather unfair of me to post any observations on it before I've revisited it. But yes, Guru Dutt is indeed considered very highly by many film enthusiasts, despite the melodramatic style of his films. And he loved casting himself as the protagonist - an aspect, along with the fact that he never really part of the 'system, that have led many to compare him with Orson Welles, though that's stretching it a bit too far in my opinion.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610074516299275060.post-8697205235075538142013-04-13T01:59:31.092-04:002013-04-13T01:59:31.092-04:00Glad this motivated you, Anon!
