Great selection. The archetypal imagery is memorable. I just can't remember the story clearly. I haven't seen this film since its original release. You remind me this is one I must obtain on DVD.

Thanks, Tony. The story is honestly not all that memorable - basically Little Red Riding Hood with the Jungian subtexts made explicit and self-conscious. Along the way, there are several asides for short 18th century werewolf stories (that wedding scene is one of them). But if the film is a bit stagey at times (this was one of Neil Jordan's earlier films, when he was mostly directing plays) and the narrative is lumpy, the visuals are often stunning and the special effects are just so cool. I really enjoyed watching this, and would definitely watch it again. Pretty cool you saw this in theaters!

Certainly a film that places what ol' Aristotle would call "spectacle" at the top of the list. I'm preaching to the choir here when I assert that striking images are often enough to earn my admiration--there are moments in I Married a Monster from Outer Space and The Deadly Mantis that remain indelibly in my mind. The Company of Wolves--as flawed as it is--fits that bill. Love the spalshes of red in various scenes.
