Lost in the Movies: Mid-September to early October 2026 at The Laker - New Hampshire film festivals

Mid-September to early October 2026 at The Laker - New Hampshire film festivals

As with last month's Laker update (in which my discussion of On Golden Pond unfolded over two columns a couple weeks apart), I'm sharing similar work which spans different months. After this, I'll get back to sharing monthly or even single-issue round-ups. In this case, the two columns both cover film festivals at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, although the number of screenings required a different approach for each. The Telluride by the Sea Festival, which has already concluded by the time you're reading this, selects only seven films from the Colorado event to bring to the New Hampshire seacoast, leaving room for a quick description of each, connections drawn between them and past screenings or tributes, and a broader history of the festival. On the other hand, the New Hampshire Film Festival jams fifty features (not to mention a ton of shorts) into a similar timespan. Due to the sheer volume and spatial constraints, that column consists purely of the titles, times, and locations for those screenings. They're still upcoming, so if you're in the area this one may be useful to you right now. And that's not all; reviews of two New Hampshire-rooted NHFF titles, We Are the Shaggs and The Road to L'Etape du Tour, are scheduled to follow in the weeks and months to come. Both of the current columns also feature listings for screenings elsewhere in the state, with a blurb on one particular highlight which I'll mention below.
